Great Success for Italian Videogames League in Riccione!
30/06/10

Saturday and Sunday June 12th and 13th 2010 the first major sporting event regarding the discipline of Electronic Sport was held in the splendid location of Palaterme Riccione. Just a small preview of the Italian games organized and held by F.N.I.G.E.

Hundreds of males between the ages of 15 and 30 participated to this event challenging and comparing their  skills  amongst each other  for hours. Playing on a virtual soccer field in FIFA 10 and other  virtual combat arenas such as Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter IV and Modern Warfare 2  with a common goal in mind, that of aiming  to win the Jackpot for a total commercial value of over  € 4000 and the coveted medals. Just  a demonstration  of how  videogames  are growing closer to sports this, obtained possible thanks to this fantastic show in anticipation of the next upcoming Italian Videogames  League.

For the little ones and amateurs not accustomed to the actual competitions  throughout Saturday and Sunday games such as Super Mario, Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart Wii and Red Steel  2 were posted in various locations  so that they could experiment  playing  with  these new games   in total relaxation  and freedom.

In winning one’s way were the favorites, but not without surprises or difficulties. The one to one FIFA 10 tournament was won by Valentino “Key Vale” La Favoci after an incredibly fought final (2-2, 3-2) against Stefano “Evil Kiu” Chiussi, with Valentino under 2-1 in the 90°, but tie-breaking on the last action following the signing and winning goal performed during extra time closing with a 4-2. All this the very same day  together with the official presentation of Valentino La Favoci who is considered one of the leading exponents of the Italian FIFA football series, and who in July will fly to South Korea to represent Italy in a major international tournament, the Hyundai Global Championships, challenging  worldwide champions of other nations  in order to win a jackpot of almost € 20,000.

In the Tekken 6 and Super Street Fighter IV Tournaments respectively classified Marco “Silver” Silvestri and Alessandro “Rushing Monkey” Basile after a long and exciting exchange of shots against Michael “MDF” Lauriti e Iorio “Rollerblade” Malusi, second runner up in the respective tournament. Great sportsmanship also shown for the long awaited 4vs4 Modern Warfare Tournament involving  four high level player teams battling till their last breath ending up in favor of Cube eSports.AMD.

For these two days of sport passion, sun, sea and entertainment, the entire event was followed up and filmed by ODEON TV. Capturing special moments such as the exploits of the winners and interviewing players  and  personnel  employed in the realization of this sporting event  accompanied with  sport spirit and social value that characterizes this discipline. Important values, particularly for young people, whom too often unfortunately are not adequately informed  and associated to video games, but  thanks to  the National Sports Festival CSAIn  have found  the right habitat along with other sports disciplines.

Concluding, F.N.I.G.E.  wants to express their  special thanks to all whom have worked and made possible the realization of this wonderful  event  such as CSAIn, the Municipality of Riccione, Activision, Nintendo, Ubisoft, Cooler Master, Sapphire, AIOMI, Publivideo 2, Italy Top Games and all the local institutions involved in the event.

Lastly, F.N.I.G.E.  also congratulates  all participants and at the same time wants to inform them that this event is just a small anticipation of what the Italian Videogames League has in reserve  for all fans of Electronic  Sports for the next upcoming months!
